About

I am a keen and dedicated Landscape Photographer based in Dorset, I endeavour to capture unique and inspiring images that give the viewer the 'being there' feel.

I am in the privileged position of being within range of beautiful landscapes and seascapes right on my doorstep, and I love being able to get out and about as often as possible. Quite often a few visits to a location are required in order to have the light 'just right' in order to capture a shot I'm happy with.

I have always had an interest in photography which has been born from my love of the outdoors.

I currently use a Nikon D300s having upgraded from the D90. My lens of choice is the Sigma 10-20mm which offers me superb opportunities to get those wide angle shots. I also use ND Graduated filters in order to balance the exposure and a cable release for minimising camera shake in order to make my photographs as sharp and crisp as possible.

My Approach and inspiration

I am a firm believer that a photograph must tell its own story and be both unique and eloquent in the way it does this.

When I am on location, I feel that I am at one with the landscape and I find that I'm always in awe of its beauty. Since really getting in to landscape photography I have come to appreciate just how intricate, and diverse our natural world is.
Being out in the wilderness away from the hustle and bustle of life is like no other feeling. Being able to capture this through a lens is something special and something I try my hardest to achieve every time I am out with the camera.

I feel a connection has to be made with the landscape or subject I am shooting. This helps me to to gauge the mood and atmosphere and then apply this to my composition, leaving me with an image that has the 'feel' and emotion of what I was experiencing whilst on location. This I feel is critical, as I want viewers of my work to also feel like they are in the landscape they are looking at.

As my journey in Landscape Photography progresses I feel that my approach is also developing. I am now looking for more subtle things in the landscape and bringing various elements together cohesively to create an image.

Even with our sophisticated weather forecasting technologies of today and 'knowing what to expect' on location, I am always treated to a surprise by the atmosphere and its dynamics and this is one of the things I look forward to on every shoot. From drifting mists and fire red sunsets to gorgeous clouds. My interest in Meteorology has given me the knowledge to be able to see when the best conditions are likely, and enable me to be in the right place at the right time. I am often looking at the long range forecast models and always planning my shoots in my mind long before I am even on location.

The ethos and approach I take to my Landscape photography is that of; 'capture all the elements just how I see them through the view finder of my camera, and let our amazing landscape speak for itself'. I do not believe in heavily manipulating images to create an effect.

I do hope you enjoy browsing my portfolio on this site as much I have enjoyed taking the photos. Please feel free to sign the guestbook and comment on my work. Do come back soon as new updates are always being added.
